Anaphylaxis

by Zach Herron

Digital painting

Artist’s Statement:

Anaphylaxis (an-a-fi-LAK-sis) is a serious and life-threatening allergic reaction that happens within minutes to hours after exposure to an allergen. It can present as a red rash, swollen throat, wheezing, trouble breathing, pale color of the face, and a feeling of impending doom. This was my artistic approach to represent what I think of when I think of someone having an anaphylactic reaction.

Zach Herron is a fourth-year medical student at the UTCOMLS.
