My Constant Companion

by Grace Earl

Some people have husbands, have partners, have wives,

Some people go clubbing and lead exciting lives,

Some people spend years perfecting Olympic dives,

I have my constant companion, my Anki cards.

Their menacing presence looms overhead,

Just like my loans, they’ll be gone when I’m dead,

An ever-lurking monster under my bed,

My constant companion, my Anki cards.

I finally get to the point where my work is done,

No reviews left, not even one,

But the numbers reset with the rise of the sun,

My constant companion, my Anki cards.
